CPR and baby first aid
Learn some of the life-saving baby first aid and CPR techniques from the new Mater Mothers’ Private first aid for babies’ course, offered in collaboration with Mater Education. Mater Mothers is Australia’s leading maternity hospital delivering over 10,000 babies every year - let their experts help you keep baby safe.
This Bupa Parenting Insights talk is given by Toni-Maree Henaway, a Registered Nurse and Midwife and also a first aid educator at the Mater Mothers’ Private. Toni-Maree focuses on two of the key topics covered in the 2.5 hour first aid course:
- Recognising an emergency situation
- Resuscitation (CPR) for infants and young children
This talk will help you understand how to respond to an emergency using an easy to remember approach and to identify when to go to hospital. Toni-Maree also explains basic CPR techniques, from how to position your hands, to the strength and frequency of compressions required. If you have identified that baby is unresponsive, the airway is not blocked and baby is not breathing, the quicker you can start CPR in an emergency situation and help baby and the better placed you are when emergency medical help arrives.
This knowledge is invaluable for all parents and grandparents!
