When will my baby start teething?
Teething is an exciting development in Bub's life, it means they're growing up! But it is also a very emotional and difficult time for Bub, as well as Mum and Dad.
A great tip for every new parent is that they should be aware that babies are unpredictable and don’t always follow the most common age for teething.
Whilst 6-10 months is the most common age for teething, pain from teething may begin as early as 3 months and there are even some other scenarios where babies are born with teeth already formed!
The gums around the merging teeth may be swollen and tender due to the new tooth moving up through the jaw, into the mouth. So, we thought we'd take the opportunity to help parents out by recapping the most common signs you may see when your Bub is teething:
- Wanting to chew, bite and suck on everything
- Excessive drooling
- Rosy Cheeks
- Irritability
- Loss of appetite
- Trouble sleeping
- Ear pulling
- Rash around the mouth
- Softer nappy content
- Raised body temperature*
- Swollen gums or a visible tooth coming through
*Please note, this should be mild only. If symptoms persist, seek medical advice.
Remember to be patient with bub, but also yourself. This can be a very tricky phase in your little one’s first few month’s earth-side, but they will become more comfortable very soon!
